• News:  History Commons "Four of the five Israelis arrested on 9/11 (see 3:56 p.m. September 11, 2001), Paul and Sivan Kurzberg, Omer Marmari, and Yaron Shmuel, file a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the US Justice Department. They claim they were arrested illegally, then held without charge and interrogated and tortured for months. Their lawyer claims the case will serve as a venue to debunk theories that Israel was behind the 9/11 attacks. [Ha'aretz, 9/16/2004; Jerusalem Post, 9/16/2004] Forward, a publication geared towards the Jewish population in the US, reported in 2002 that the FBI concluded at least two of the five were Mossad agents and that all were on a Mossad surveillance mission. • WayneMadsenReport Jan 2010 excerpt:   Marla Sanchez Pietton was an accomplished translator and interpreter of Spanish, Italian, French, and English. More noteworthy is that according to her c.v., Mrs. Pietton provided translation services for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami, and the Internal Revenue Service. Other translation clients included the fraud-plagued French bank Credit Lyonnais and the collapsed telecommunications giant, MCI. Ambassador Pietton had served as the French Consul General in Miami from 1992 to 1997. He then was a top official at the Quai d'Orsay in Paris before being posted with his wife to Jerusalem as French Consul General from 1999 to 2002. Pietton and his wife then transferred to Washington for three years before becoming French ambassador to South Africa. While the Piettons were in Jerusalem, the DEA began conducting surveillance of teams of Israeli "art students" who were living and working with some of the 9/11 hijackers, particularly in the Miami-Dade and Broward County area. Some of the atudents claimed to be art students from the non-existent University of Jerusalem. The nexus of the Israelis, many of whom were former Israeli military and intelligence personnel, with some of the 9/11 hijackers, was quickly ushered off the pages of newspapers and a Fox News story on the students was yanked from the network's web site.  MORE
• WMR has learned details of one of the most important components of the National Security Agency's warrantless wiretapping program code named "STELLAR WIND." The highly-classified STELLAR WIND program was initiated by the George W. Bush administration with the cooperation of major U.S. telecommunications carriers, including AT&T and Verizon.   ...   The interception of text communications by STELLAR WIND was a major priority of the NSA program.   ...   The major NSA system for intercepting text communications is called PINWALE. On September 15, 2008, WMR first reported on how PINWALE was used to target Russian e-mails, "Code-named PINWALE, the NSA email surveillance system targets Russian government, military, diplomatic, and commercial email traffic and burrows into the text portions of the email to search for particular words and phrases of interest to NSA eavesdroppers."    and cont....   If Fitzgerald's legal brief against Blagojevich contains PINWALE-derived wiretap information it would explain why he has been unsuccessful in finding a grand jury in Chicago to indict Blagojevich. WMR was specifically told that e-mails between Washington and Chicago would be contained in PINWALE and that is something that could pose a problem for Fitzgerald in explaining where all his intercepts of Blagojevich originated. An ICTS board member, retired Major General Amos Lapidot, served as commander of the Israeli Air Force and authorized Israeli Air Force Colonel Aviem Sella, operating under official cover at the Israeli Consulate General in New York, and Rafael Eitan, head of LAKAM, an Israeli military technical intelligence gatherer, to accept U.S. Navy intelligence official Jonathan Pollard's offer to spy for Israel. ICTS International, headquartered in Amstelveen, Netherlands, is also involved in providing various security controls at Schiphol airport. ICTS has a major presence around the world in airport security with contracts at Hong Kong, Bangkok, Suva, Auckland, Singapore, Macau, Chicago O'Hare, London Gatwick, Newark, Los Angeles, and Belfast. In 1999, Detroit airport abruptly canceled its security contract with Argenbright Security Inc. and replaced it with Huntleigh of St. Louis. Huntleigh had recently been purchased by ICTS. In December 2001, Huntleigh/ICTS screeners at San Diego Interntional Airport placed a dummy "test" grenade in the carry-on baggage of an unwitting Chicago-bound passenger. Huntleigh/ICTS also provided "security" at Boston's Logan Airport on September 11, 2001.  Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, the University College London student from Nigeria accused of trying to detonate a mixed liquid-powder device on a Northwest Airlines/Delta Airbus 330, flight 253, as it approached Detroit from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Christmas Day appears to have received some special treatment from security at the Amsterdam airport. And answered: "A General Accounting Office investigation referred to Israel as Country A and said, 'According to a US intelligence agency, the government of country A conducts the most aggressive espionage operation against the US of any US ally.'

During the course of that work, he learned from a co-worker that similar cabinets were being installed in other cities, including Seattle, San Jose, Los Angeles and San Diego."

Notes: Comverse Technology's CEO and two other top executives resigned on Monday, about six weeks after the software maker said it was reviewing its stock options grants, the latest executives to be felled by greater scrutiny over the timing of options grants.  Comverse said the resignations of Kobi Alexander, chairman and CEO as well as the company's founder; Chief Financial Officer David Kreinberg, and William Sorin, general counsel and corporate secretary, were effective immediately.
