WMR (1/09) has previously reported on the malfeasance of the U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois, Patrick Fitzgerald, in his investigation of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the outing of CIA covert agent Valerie Plame Wilson. In the case of the 1993 attack, Fitzgerald sat on critical signals intelligence (SIGINT) evidence that would have tied the bombing to Osama bin Laden in exile in Sudan. Bin Laden remained a U.S. intelligence asset at the time of the World Trade Center bombing so Fitzgerald, following orders from Langley, simply failed to enter into evidence wiretaps communications between the Sudanese Mission to the United Nations in New York and the Sudanese Foreign Ministry in Khartoum that contained references to Bin Laden. In the outing of Plame, Fitzgerald refused to enter as evidence tapped phone calls of Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff I. Cooperative Research "An unnamed high-ranking State Department official tips off members of a nuclear smuggling ring about a CIA operation to penetrate it, according to FBI translator Sibel Edmonds. Blog Edmonds will later leave the FBI, becoming a whistleblower, and will say she knows this based on telephone conversations she translated. The ring is headed by Pakistani nuclear scientist A. Q. Khan, and includes Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency, as well as Turkish and Israeli representatives. The official is said to tell a member of the ring that a company the ring wants to do business with, Brewster Jennings & Associates, is a CIA front company. Brewster Jennings & Associates is a front for Valerie Plame Wilson, who will later be outed as a CIA officer in 2003, and possibly other operatives. A group of Turkish agents come to the US on the pretext of researching alternative energy sources and are introduced to Brewster Jennings through a lobby group, the American Turkish Council (ATC). The Turks apparently believe Brewster Jennings are energy consultants and plan to hire them. According to Edmonds, the State Department official finds out about this and contacts a foreign target under FBI surveillance, telling him, “[Y]ou need to stay away from Brewster Jennings because they are a cover for the government.” The FBI target then warns several people about Brewster Jennings, including a person at the ATC and an ISI agent, and Plame Wilson is moved to another operation."

Leakers and Leak Launderers: Is this story relevant to Plamegate: In 2002 Fitzgerald had been investigating three Islamic charities accused of supporting terrorism (Wikipedia, Miller) the Holy Land Foundation, the Global Relief Foundation and the Benevolence International Foundation. But just before his investigators could swoop in with warrants, two of the charities in question were tipped off and destroyed a lot of evidence. HistoryCommons "Senator Bob Graham (D) alleges that the White House has covered up possible Saudi Arabian government connections to hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar. In an interview to promote his new book entitled “Intelligence Matters,” he contends that evidence relating to these two hijackers who lived in San Diego “present[s] a compelling case that there was Saudi assistance” to the 9/11 plot. He also concludes that President Bush directed the FBI “to restrain and obfuscate” investigations into these ties, possibly to protect US-Saudi relations. The San Diego Union-Tribune notes, “Graham co-chaired the exhaustive congressional inquiry into the Sept. 11 attacks and is privy to still-classified information about the probe.” Graham claims that Omar al-Bayoumi and Osama Basnan are Saudi intelligence agents. He also claims that the FBI deliberately blocked his inquiry’s attempts to interview Abdussattar Shaikh, the FBI asset who was a landlord to the above-mentioned hijackers (see November 18, 2002).
