• WMR 12-2009 provided a "yes" response to the Hindustan Times's  question on December 4, 2008: "WMR has learned from Asian intelligence sources that one of the accused masterminds of the gangland assault on Mumbai, the soft-spoken but extremely dangerous exiled Indian mobster and one-time Bombay local street tough, or 'dada,' Ibrahim, was a key 'unsavory' ally of the CIA and Cheney in the war against 'Al Qaeda.' In fact, Ibrahim's dalliances with the CIA go back to the Afghan mujaheddin war against the Soviets and coincide with the CIA's alliance, at the time, with Osama Bin Laden . . . Ibrahim, according to our sources, played an important part in Cheney's and Rumsfeld's 'shadow war' after 9/11. It was Ibrahim, for example, who used his criminal network to track down the killers of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan. Ibrahim's men were also used to provide protection for Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai in Pakistan and Afghanistan, especially when the Afghan frequented gay brothels in Pakistan. Ibrahim's enterprises, called 'D-Company,' ensured that U.S. supply ships in the Arabian Sea were protected from attack, that the U.S. embassy in Islamabad was not targeted for terrorist attack, arranged for reasonable port fees to be assessed for U.S. ships in Dubai in support of the Iraq war,  that U.S. sailors and contractors in Dubai were protected, and that all the kickbacks for Cheney's Halliburton and other U.S. contractors were properly laundered through Dubai banks. Ibrahim's network also ensured that the land route from Karachi to Afghanistan allowed U.S., Indian, and other nations' goods to move into the landlocked country unimpeded."
• WMR Nov 23,  2009 The Israelis discovered that only U.S. nuclear cores composed of plutonium alloys were ripe for theft at Pantex. The 99 percent plutonium fuel was more well-guarded. Because the older plutonium cores required refrigeration to keep them cooler than 150 degrees, the Israelis used refrigeration trucks to move the cores through the post of Houston and into refrigeration containers loaded on board ships belonging to Zim-American Israeli Shipping Company, a firm with close links to the Mossad. From Houston, the plutonium alloy cores were shipped to Israel and Dimona.    ...    One individual who had the port of Houston under close scrutiny was CIA contractor/informant/source Roland "Tony" Carnaby. Carnaby had set up a number of video surveillance cameras at the port of Houston and routinely uploaded the stored videos from the camera units to his Macintosh computer. In April 2008, Carnaby was shot to death by two Houston police officers after what was reported to have been a high-speed chase by police. After he was killed, the Houston police took possession of Carnaby's Macintoch computer. WMR previously reported that Carnaby kept Israeli intelligence assets and agents under close scrutiny in Houston and that he had a strange encounter with an Israeli Consulate General official the evening before he was shot. WMR also previously reported on Mossad's penetration of the Houston Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Harris County Sheriff Adrien Garcia has visited Israel and is considered close to the Israeli intelligence operation in Houston. Garcia's overall agenda was also never trusted by Carnaby, according to our sources in Houston. Conveniently, security for the port of Houston comes under Harris County and Garcia. Radiation detectors routinely scan containers at Houston for the presence of nuclear materials, hence, it is important for the Mossad to counteract security at the port.
• August 6, 2009   WayneMadsenReport  October 7, 2009 -- Do the CIA and Mossad have both sides of coin covered in Iran?Recent reports that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hails from a Persian Jewish family with the surname Sabourjian, which translates from the "weaver of the sabour," sabour being the Persian Jewish prayer shawl, has intelligence agents all over the Middle East wondering if Ahmadinejad, with his bluster about there being no Holocaust and his reviling of Zionism, is just not too good to be true for those who want to attack Iran and overthrow the Islamic Republic. Ahmadinejad's father, Ahmad, did change the family's name from Sabourjian to Ahmadinejad, some say to hide the family's Jewish roots by adopting a Muslim name.    ....    Of course, having Jewish roots in no way makes Ahmadinejad some sort of secret agent for the Mossad. However, the reports could undermine Ahmadinejad's standing among the more radical members of the Iranian Islamic leadership.    ...    Ahmadinejad is linked politically to the Supreme Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hoseyni Khamenei. However, according to an undated CIA document titled "Recent Developments in Iran," that appears to be from the time of the Iraq-Iran war of the 1980s, Khamenei is linked to the group of mullahs that included Mir Hossein Mousavi, Ahmadinejad's losing challenger in the recent Iranian presidential election. Mousavi served as Prime Minister under then-President Khamenei in the 1980s. More significantly, Mousavi, who received a great deal of financial support from groups associated with George Soros and his CIA-linked "foundations" during the recent presidential election campaign, was part and parcel of the Iranian end of the Iran-contra affair. Mousavi played a key role in freeing the American hostages in Lebanon in return for secret U.S. military aid in Iran's war against the forces of Saddam Hussein, who was also secretly backed by the Americans.    ...     Another member of the Khamenei bloc, according to the CIA document, was Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, now the Secretary General of the Combatant Clergy Association. Kani's colleague in the bloc, according to the CIA document, was Ayatollah Abdul-Karim Mousavi Ardabili, the head of the Iranian judiciary under Ayatollah Khomeini, who was, along with Khamenei, Rafsanjani, and Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti, believed by many in Iran and abroad of having pre- and post-revolution links to the CIA. Beheshti was killed, along with over 70 other members of his Islamic Republican Party on June 28, 1981 in a terrorist bombing carried out by the neocon-supported Mohajedin-e-Khalq (MEK), the favorrite Iranian terrorist group of Richard Perle and Michael Ledeen. Beheshti was close to Mohamad Khatami, who would later become a moderate president of Iran, and Khomeini.    ...    One of Ledeen's associates, Manucher Ghorbanifar, an Iranian Jew who lived mostly in Rome, was a key middleman in the supply of U.S. weapons to Iran in the Iran-contra scandal. Ghorbanifar also became a key interlocutor in the lead-up to the U.S. attack and occupation of Iraq and his involvement is suspected in the forged Niger "yellowcake" uranium documents that were partially used to justify the attack on Iraq.    ...    According to the CIA document, the Khamenei-Mousavi bloc was oposed by the bloc of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former president and, ironically, a backer of Mousavi in the recent election. Rafsanjani was also a key player in the Iran-contra affair and is suspected of receiving gifts from top Reagan administration officials in cementing the Iranian end of the Iran-contra operational pipeline. Also associated with the Rafsanjani bloc was Grand Ayatollah Hosein-Ali Montazeri, a once-powerful and quite liberal mullah who was exiled to Qom and house arrest by Khamenei. Earlier, Montazeri's chief aide, Mehdi Hashemi, was accused of leaking information on Rafsanjani's connections to the Iran-contra scandal and he was executed as a counter-revolutionary in 1987.    ...   It is noteworthy that the CIA document states that the second, Rafsanjani-Montazeri group had the "backing of fanatic terrorist organizations." In fact, the more radical policies came out of the first group that included Khamenei and the now-"moderate" Mousavi. Nevertheless, from the Iran-contra scandal to the secret U.S. arming of Iran, the CIA had its links to both blocs. The relationships built between the CIA and the Khamenei-Mousavi and Rafsanjani blocs in the 1980s may continue with the Khamenei-Ahmadinejad bloc today.    ...    Although the Mossad and CIA were heavily involved in the secret Iran-contra arms shipments to Iran during the 1980s, the CIA document also reveals that an Italian middleman named "Seratore" was involved in secret negotiations to provide Iran with weapons, including tanks from Argentina and armored personnel carriers from Italy.

   

• August 6, 2009 -- Former FBI translator intends to tell all in testimony in Ohio case

  Former FBI Turkish and Farsi translator Sibel Edmonds, illegally fired from her job after she reported Turkish intelligence penetration of the FBI's counter-intelligence ranks, is prepared to break the "State Secret" gag order imposed on her by then-Attorney General John Ashcroft in October 2002.

  Edmonds is preparing to testify on behalf of Ohio Democratic congressional candidate David Krikorian after incumbent Republican candidate Jean Schmidt filed a complaint against Krikorian in which it is alleged that Krikorian slandered her for charging that she took money from lobbyists for Turkey in opposing a House resolution on Turkey committing genocide against the Armenian people in 1918.

  Edmonds's attorney has informed Attorney General Eric Holder by letter that Edmonds plans to testify in the Ohio Elections Commission case of Schmidt v. Krikorian unless Holder replied by close of business on August 5. Holder has become a lightning rod for those who claims the Obama Justice Department is upholding the draconian policies of the Bush administration.

  Edmonds recently stated that Osama Bin Laden was on the payroll of the CIA up until the 9/11 attacks. WMR previously reported on a French intelligence document that states that Bin Laden was under the operational control of the CIA and Britain's MI-6 until 1995, two years after the 1993 World Trade Center attack. Additionally, WMR confirmed French press reports that Bin Laden met at the American Hospital in Dubai with CIA Dubai station chief Larry Mitchell in July 2001, weeks before the 9/11 attacks.

  Sworn testimony by Edmonds on Turkey's "Deep State" intelligence apparatus in the United States may shed additional light on the role of Turkey in drug and human organ smuggling, as well as nuclear proliferation and money laundering. The Turkish Deep State involves shadowy organizations, including the Fetullah Gulen Islamic movement, which was linked to the CIA by Justice Department prosecutors; Ergenekon, a Turkish intelligence operation that is accused of carrying out false flag terrorist attacks in Turkey and which has been linked to Israel's Mossad, and the right-wing Grey Wolves, a group that, along with Ergenekon, appears to have grown out of America's "Gladio" Cold War-era "stay behind" network.

  Turkey and its association with nuclear components smuggling involving Israel, Pakistan, former Soviet central Asian states, and other countries was a particular focus of outed CIA non-official cover officer Valerie Plame Wilson and her Brewster Jennings & Associates cover firm. Neocons in the Bush-Cheney administration were concerned that Mrs. Wilson's probe was inching close to top neocons in the administration, including State Department official Marc Grossman, Pentagon officials Eric Edelman and Douglas Feith, and arch neocon police adviser Richard Perle. The major Turkish lobbying organization, the American Turkish Council has close links with what has been termed its "sister organization" -- the American Israel Publoic Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

  On January 18, 2008, WMR reported: "WMR has learned that former CIA covert agent Valerie Plame Wilson, whose covert status was leaked by the Bush White House, and former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds, who was focused on a major covert network involving Turkish, Israeli, and key members of the Bush administration and Republican Party and weapons and drug smuggling, were essentially looking at the same network.

  The nexus of Turkey with both the covert CIA Brewster Jennings and Associates operations and the Turkish-Israeli network of influence active within the Defense and State Departments, is the key factor in understanding the complicated counter-espionage operation conducted by both the FBI and CIA.

  The congressional investigation by Senators Pat Leahy and Charles Grassley in support of Edmonds' revelations and congressional and judicial efforts to obtain White House emails on the leak of Plame's identity have been stymied by a powerful array of top Bush administration officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, Bush adviser Karl Rove, Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, convicted Cheney Chief of Staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former Deputy Defense Secretary for Policy and Plans Douglas Feith, and Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Marc Grossman.

  Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgeraldwas also, according to our sources, well aware of the massive conspiracy to cover-up the smuggling of weapons of mass destruction components from former Soviet Central Asian states, as well as Ukraine, Moldova, and Ukraine, to the international weapons bazaar. The Abdul Qadeer Khan (A Q Khan) network based in Pakistan was a major beneficiary of the weapons smuggling operation that used Turkey as a pass-through.

  Rather than expand his investigation, Fitzgerald demurred on looking at the activities of the American Turkish Council, Turkey's influential lobbying group in Washington, and its parallel symbiotic organization, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Turkey and Israel are close military and intelligence partners.

  WMR has also learned from informed British sources that the late Dr. David Kelly, said to have committed suicide with a pen knife and over-the-counter drugs, was murdered because he had stumbled across the British role in the international weapons smuggling ring operating chiefly out of Washington . . . WMR has also learned that the late Princess Diana, in her campaign against land mine proliferation, became aware of a even greater arms proliferation danger, that of nuclear weapons and components. Diana also reportedly became privy to the identities of key British politicians and officials involved in the smuggling. Diana died in a suspicious automobile accident in Paris in 1997."

• Apr,  2009 WMR There is additional information to report on the Treasury Note that is secured by $250 billion in gold (2500 metric tons) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. After the sudden resignation of New York Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Stephen Friedman, a one-time top economic adviser to President George W. Bush and someone who apparently profited from the government's bailout of Goldman Sachs while he served as both Chairman of the New York Fed and as a board member for Goldman Sachs, the entire Federal Reserve Bank system appears to be involved in a massive ploy to loot the United States of its gold and cash reserves.    ...   On May 5, 2009, WMR reported: "According to WMR's sources, the FBI and London police are working together on a case that involved a $250 billion U.S. Treasury Note seized by the FBI from a London safety deposit box company, London Safe Deposit Company, Ltd. The box was reportedly placed at the London firm by self-described 20-year CIA veteran Robert Booth Nichols, who reportedly died in Geneva, Switzerland on February 14, 2009.   ...   A heart attack was believed to have been the cause of death but there was a blow to Nichols's head. • Apr,  2009  WMR April 2, 2009 -- Stanford laundered and siphoned money from wealthy Latin Americans to fund anti-leftist rebellions     ....    An informed source close to the investigation of Sir Allen Stanford's failed Stanford Financial Group and Stanford International Bank has told WMR that there is another link between Stanford's activities and those of jailed Ponzi scammer Bernard Madoff. While Madoff defrauded a number of wealthy American Jewish investors, Stanford, according to our source, was doing the same with the investments of a number of Latin American Jews, especially those from Mexico and Venezuela.     ...    In some cases, however, Stanford, with the knowledge of the Jewish investors, was laundering and forwarding their money to groups planning the overthrow of elected progressive leaders such as Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, Evo Morales in Bolivia, Rafael Correa in Ecuador, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in Argentina, and Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua. • WMR previously reported on Sir Allen Stanford's aviation fleet and its curious links to covert U.S. intelligence operations. American International Group (AIG) is also in the aviation business and its subsidiary, International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), is one of the largest aircraft leasing businesses in the world.    ...    Last year, ILFC's CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy, a Hungarian emigre who founded ILFC in 1973, attempted to buy back ILFC from AIG. As a $65 million donor to the Smithsonian's Dulles annex, the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum annex at Dulles International Airport is named for Udvar-Hazy. The SR-71 Blackbird spy plane among other large aircraft, are on display at the annex. Udvar-Hazy, one of the world's richest men, may still get his wish to reacquire ILFC as AIG attempts to come up with much-needed cash. In 2006, Udvar-Hazy was one of the members of the official U.S. delegation to Hungary that was led by part-Hungarian New York Governor George Pataki to mark the 50th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of the country.   ...   Questions remain as to why a company primarily involved in insurance would have taken over an aircraft leasing business that leases Airbus and Boeing passenger jet liners to airlines, the super wealthy, and Hollywood stars. The answer may be found in AIG's classified files that would put the spotlight on AIG's clandestine work for U.S. intelligence since the company's founding in 1919 in Shanghai as American Asiatic Underwriters by Cornelius Vander Starr, the uncle of President Clinton's chief prosecutor, Kenneth Starr. In 1992, Maurice "Hank" Greenberg took over majority shares in the company from Starr.   ...   Greenberg, a close confidante of Henry Kissinger, was once considered by Clinton to head up the CIA after James Woolsey's departure in 1995 and Greenberg named Kissinger as chairman of AIG's International Advisory Board. AIG's one-time Vice Chairman was Frank G. Wisner, Jr., son of veteran Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and CIA veteran Frank Wisner, a one-time liaison to British agent Kim Philby, who later turned out to be a top Soviet spy. On February 26, 2009, WMR reported on a major date that may bear great significance on the collapses, bailouts, and investigations of a number of major international firms tied to CIA covert activities. WMR reported that on May 5, 2006, just three days prior to Dusty Foggo's resignation as the CIA's Executive Director, CIA director Porter Goss resigned. On the same day that Goss resigned, President George W. Bush signed an order exempting publicly traded companies from accounting and disclosure procedures required under the 1934 Securities Exchange Act for national intelligence reasons. Then-Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte was delegated the authority to exempt companies from compliance with the SEC [Securities and Exchange Commission] law.   ...   What Bush did with one stroke of a pen was to exempt companies like Stanford Financial Group, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, American International Group (AIG), and other companies linked to U.S., and, in the case of Madoff, Israeli, covert intelligence activities, from normal oversight and regulation by the SEC. The Director of National Intelligence (DNI), then John Negroponte, no stranger to the world of subterranean intelligence operations, was empowered to exempt CIA front companies from SEC oversight. It is not known whether President Obama's DNI, Dennis Blair, retains this authority, but Congress should start asking about the Bush order and whether it remains in effect. • WayneMadsenReport No one will ever know just how Charlesworth Shelley Hewlett, who ran CAS Hewlett & Company out of a small office sandwiched between fish and chips shops on South Bury Road in Enfield in north London, came to be the accountant for Allen Stanford's $50 billion financial empire that included Stanford International Bank (SIB). That is because Mr. Hewlett, known as a quiet gray-haired man to those who had offices in his north London office block, died "peacefully" a few weeks before the Stanford scandal hit the front pages. Hewlett was 73 but no one knows the reason for Hewlett's death.   ...   CAS Hewlett maintained only four other offices, three in the London area, including one in Ilford in Essex, England and another in Antigua, where SIB is headquartered.   ...   There are definite links between the Stanford scam and that involving Bernard Madoff's $50 billion Ponzi scheme. Perhaps the one most striking similarity between the two men is that they used small, virtually unknown accounting firms to handle multi-billion dollar enterprises that are usually audited by the large international accounting firms like Price Waterhouse Coopers and Ernst and Young. Madoff used Friehling & Horowitz, a small three-person firm in New City, New York, while Stanford used Hewlett with four offices of one to two rooms in the London area with no signs of regular employees. WMR has been informed by a knowledgeable source that Hewlett's rented offices had a desk, a filing cabinet, and a telephone. None of the telephones had answering machines. Neighboring office workers noticed an individual entering and exiting Hewlett's offices about once a week.   full story
• However, the financial scandal is also a political scandal. Starting in this decade Madoff's giving became radically one directional. In the 1990's he gave to whoever was local, and to people who regulated the securities industry. Locally, Alphonse D'Amato and Jerrold Nadler were both on his contributions list. But in this decade, he and his youngest son Andrew began lavishing money on the Democratic Party. In all Bernard gave $128,000 to Democrats as a donor, but $100,000 of that came in the last three years to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. His wife Ruth gave heavily to Hillary Clinton and HILLPAC, their sons gave as well. The recipients? Back in 1999 they were backers of Bill Bradley, but over the long term, the tight cluster of giving was to Ed Markey, Chuck Schumer, and Ron Wyden. Frank Lautenberg got political contributions, and put his and his charity's money with them. That's a clear conflict of interest.

About 10 years ago, Harry Markopolos, then chief investment officer at Rampart Investment Management Co in Boston, asked diBartolomeo, president of Northfield Information Services outside of Boston, to run Madoff's numbers. According to diBartolomeo, Markopolos told him that Rampart was pursuing the same strategy as Madoff, but Rampart's numbers were not as good as Madoff's, and Markopolos wanted to find out why. "After spending about three hours playing around with regression analyses and various kinds of calculations, I could not reconcile it," diBartolomeo said in an interview.

A search for gas venting on the Arctic seafloor focused on pingo-like-features (PLFs) on the Beaufort Sea Shelf because they may be a direct consequence of gas hydrate decomposition at depth. Vibracores collected from eight PLFs had systematically elevated methane concentrations. ROV observations revealed streams of methane-rich gas bubbles coming from the crests of PLFs. We offer a scenario of how PLFs may be growing offshore as a result of gas pressure associated with gas hydrate decomposition."   ...   Adding to the in extremis situation regarding the planet's environment comes the report of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), issued at an international meeting in Paris today. • WMR The Houston Chronicle reported yesterday on new developments in the civil case brought against the city of Houston by Susan Carnaby, the widow of slain retired CIA Houston station chief Roland "Tony" Carnaby. Carnaby was shot to death by Houston police on April 29. The city is trying to convince U.S. Judge Keith Ellison, who is trying the civil case, to order Susan Carnaby not to make public the "homicide report," the police internal investigation report of the shooting incident, 911 emergency phone call transcripts, or police dispatch tape transcripts to be made public if the city provides such material to her. Susan Carnaby, in an affidavit to the court, said she believes the public has a right to know about the details of the incident, especially since the "police department is investigating itself." The additional details point to then-Lt. Commander John McCain playing more of a role in triggering the fire and explosions than previously reported.  ...  On January 16, 2006, WMR reported that according to a US Navy sailor who was aboard the Forrestal on the fateful day of the fire, “McCain and the Forrestal’s skipper, Capt. John K. Beling, were warned about the danger of using M-65 1000-lb. bombs manufactured in 1935, which were deemed too dangerous to use during World War II and, later, on B-52 bombers. Payne was recently caught in a secret videotaped sting by the Sunday Times. Payne offered one Eric Dos, a purported exiled political leader from Kazakhstan, meetings with Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, or National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley for a payment of $700,000. The George W. Bush Presidential Library would receive $250,000 of the amount. In return, Payne would ensure that ousted Kyrgyzstan President Askar Akayev's "sponsors" would receive personal attention in his attempt to regain power in Kyrgyzstan with senior Bush administration officials, including Cheney. Akayev lives in exile and teaches mathematics at Moscow State University.  ...  The only problem for Payne was that "Dos" was not an exiled Kazakh politician an but a Sunday Times reporter. The smoking gun documents revealed by the Sunday Times include a July 9, 2008, email from Dos to Payne stating that "Money can be tomorrow . . . They [Akayev's sponsors] can give the Bush donation in cash as I told them that the Bush library still to be created. Do you want me to bring cash to London to simplify things?" Payne wrote back the same day, "That's Great news . . . cash is very hard to deal with in and can't be easily brought to USA — a wire transfer for 700 to cover everything at once is best way (but we can discuss options if it's a problem)."

Despite the fact that much of this information is in the public record, Mr. Ashcroft stubbornly refused to answer my legitimate questions and instead decide to "keep faith" with the Bush Administration and keep secrets from the American people and the Congress of the United States.

They had arrived in London in late May to do research at Imperial College and were planning to return to France at the end of July, Duthie said.  Both were graduate biochemistry students and had been studying DNA and the cleansing of protein within DNA, he said.

Probe of launch near Bush airport has stalled, FAA records indicate  A Continental airliner might have been only a minute away from colliding with what the pilot described as a model rocket that shot past his cockpit window, Federal Aviation Administration records obtained by the Houston Chronicle show. On Memorial Day, the Continental pilot reported being startled by his encounter with this object that "went straight up" and left a long white vapor trail. Yet the trail to identifying this object has appeared to run cold since the FAA and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force launched their investigation into the episode. For starters, the radar at George Bush Intercontinental Airport was unable to detect any unusual object in the sky when Flight 1544 took off. A video recording, acquired from the FAA through a Chronicle open record request, shows the radar detected nothing but dozens of airplanes. FAA authorities said this is not surprising because airport surveillance radar is designed to track the departure and arrival of planes, and officials want to avoid clutter. It would usually not pick up a small object such as a model rocket that is going straight up, the FAA said. The radar data also show the plane carrying 148 passengers to Cleveland never detoured from its route. Just minutes after takeoff, as the plane was headed over Lake Houston, the pilot acknowledged spotting the object. Adelman left the Vice President's office in June 2003 to take up his post as ambassador to Turkey. However, the indictment indicates that Adelman continued to be involved in discussions with Libby after beginning Turkish language training. According to FBI sources, Adelman used his position as ambassador to Turkey to cement a triad of weapons and drug smuggling and money laundering involving Turks, Israelis, and Americans. The CIA and US Customs Service busted one nuclear smuggling ring involving South African-Israeli national Asher Karni, a Pakistani businessman named Humayun Khan, and a Turkish Jew with strong Israeli ties named Zeki Bilmen. The smuggling network involved companies in Cape Town; Secaucus, New Jersey; and Islamabad, Pakistan. Karni was convicted by a US court for smuggling nuclear triggers to Pakistan via South Africa. • New York  The FBI arrested a New Jersey man for allegedly spying for Israel by stealing military secrets including technology for the "Patriot Defense" system as well as fighter jet technology, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.  Ben-Ami Kadish is set to be arraigned on the espionage charges in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.  Investigators said Kadish stole secrets from the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover from 1979 through 1985.  Kadish allegedly smuggled documents from the base to his home. Court documents said an Israeli agent would then travel to the residence and "take photographs of the classified documents in the basement of the residence. The next morning, Kadish would take the classified documents back to the Arsenal and return them to the library,” the complaint said.  A woman who answered the phone at Kadish's home declined to comment on the charges.  Court papers suggest some of the confidential documents also contained information about nuclear technology and F-15's. The criminal complaint suggests Kadish made statements about having taken the documents because they had "a direct correlation to Israel's security."

Missal concluded that New Century engaged in at least seven improper accounting practices that led the company to report incorrect financial information to Wall Street for fiscal 2005 and the first nine months of 2006.  Missal also found that senior management at the Irvine, Calif.-based lender failed to take appropriate steps to manage rising risks caused by the company's aggressive approach to originating loans, often to borrowers who couldn't afford them.  "New Century had a brazen obsession with increasing loan originations, without due regard to the risks associated with that business strategy," Missal's report said. • Feb 26, 2008 ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- A tiny Alaska village eroding into the Arctic Ocean sued two dozen oil, power and coal companies Tuesday, claiming that the large amounts of greenhouse gases they emit contribute to global warming that threatens the community's existence.  The city of Kivalina and a federally recognized tribe, the Alaska Native village of Kivalina, sued Exxon Mobil Corporation, eight other oil companies, 14 power companies and one coal company in a lawsuit filed in federal court in San Francisco.  Kivalina is a traditional Inupiat Eskimo village of about 390 people about 625 miles (1005 km) northwest of Anchorage. It's built on an 8-mile (13-km) barrier reef between the Chukchi Sea and Kivalina River.  Sea ice traditionally protected the community, whose economy is based in part on salmon fishing plus subsistence hunting of whale, seal, walrus, and caribou. But sea ice that forms later and melts sooner because of higher temperatures has left the community unprotected from fall and winter storm waves and surges that lash coastal communities.  "We are seeing accelerated erosion because of the loss of sea ice," City Administrator Janet Mitchell said in a statement. "We normally have ice starting in October, but now we have open water even into December so our island is not protected from the storms."  Relocation costs have been estimated at $400 million or more.  
• Feb 21, 2008  WMR has learned from UN sources that the 19th Floor from which UN employee Maria DiBiase plunged to her death in the early morning of February 17, houses the Department of Peace-keeping Operations/Field Administration and Logistics Division (DPKO/FALD). The offices also house the code machines used for the encrypted fax machines used for DPKO activities in addition to a spare set of code machines used for DPKO rapid response teams.  DiBiase, an Austrian national, was a computer specialist for the UN and a former Conference Services staff member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.  WMR has learned that the UN Special Commission (UNSCOM) maintained in a special UN's computer database all the files on Sadaam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction program retrieved from compact disks provided to UNSCOM by Saddam's government prior to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The database is said to include all the black market nuclear suppliers involved in providing materials to Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, and Libya via Turkey and the A Q Khan smuggling network. The list reportedly includes front companies in Switzerland linked to Marc Rich, the American fugitive pardoned by President Clinton, and Dick Cheney.  DiBiase is said to have arrived at work Sunday morning to finish a project that was due on Monday morning. As Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald said in his opening statement: "You can't learn something on Thursday that you're giving out on Monday."
